Minutes of P2 beam test meeting. Yu. Bonushkin. Recent history and current status. May 26. The chamber arrived. May 29. The chamber mounted on the support at the beam line. Filled with "old" gas (30/50/20). ELectronics mounted: new anode (CMU), old anode (OSU), old cathode - GASPLEX (OSU). May 30. Nominal HV of 4.1kV is set on all 6 planes. May 31. Tracks in both planes - anode (new CMU) and cathode (GASPLEX) June 3. GASPLEX calibration. June 4. Start HV-scan with old gas. June 6. Theta scan with old gas. Done so far: 1. Old gas old anode electroincs, GASPLEX - HV scan @ Theta=0 (Operating point, plateau) - Theta scan (time spectra) new anode electronics, GASPLEX - HV scan @ Theta=0 2. New gas old anode electroincs, GASPLEX - HV scan @ Theta=25 - Theta scan @ HV=3.55kV - Phi scan @ HV = 3.5, Theta = 25 - HV scan over guard strip (a lot of bad data) new anode electronics, GASPLEX - HV scan @ Theta=25 - Theta scan @ HV=3.8 Bryan Smith. Status of the global DAQ system: we have no control, not enough insider knowledge. Nobody is responsible for proper operation. Express results. Multiplicity and timing plots are presented. Looks good, except there's a glitch in HV and Theta scans with old electronics. Needs to be remeasured (and it was - by June 15. Yu.B.) Tom Ferguson. Anode electronics stutus: 2 cards mounted on the chamber, one to arrive from UCLA, for full chamber coverage. Data was taken with 3 thresholds - 90 and 130 fC. The operation point is 3.8 kV. Both boards need to be tested seriously standalone and with LCT cards. Jason Gilmore. Cathode electronics status: arrived in good shape, tested on the bench - works fine with JTAG. 5% dead amplifier channels. Fortunately, 1 board out of 3 has no dead area at all. Ready to be mounted on the chamber (by June 15 we see muon tracks. Yu.B.). Jay Hauser. Trigger elec's status. Comparator board is being tested on the bench. No signals seen from a number of comparator channels. Being investigated if bad solder job. LCT cards were shipped from UCLA Thursday afternoon. Yuri Bonushkin. Plans. Assuming DAQ fixed, finish guard strip program, Theta-scan with old electronics (for trigger simulation. Operating range of new cathode electronics - without comparators, then with comparators, then with LCT modules. General discussion. Suggestion to request extra time at H2. We can run in parallel with Dubna till they are done and then move to GIF simultaneously. Andrei Korytov. Things to study: Old gas New gas Anode old Anode new Anode new + LCT Gasplex Buckeye Buckeye + comparators Buckeye + comparators + LCT Buckeye + comparators + LCT-driven DAQ Muon momentum Without iron With iron Anode threshold Comparator threshold Strips width - wide, middle, narrow Guard strip Strip #1 Measurements are done in series of HV, Theta and Phi scans. Getting software effort organized: 1. Beautiful online monitoring (histogramming and event display) - Bill, Lisa 2. DAQ upgrade - Bryan Smith 3. Express analysis off-line - Brian Smith 4. Calibration - Adam Bujak, Dave Chrisman, Richard Breedon 5. Beam chambers, SiBT - Benn Tannenbaum 6. Trigger - Jay, Shankar, Lisa 7. Strip resolution studies - Adam, Lisa 8. Anode performance studies - Bryan. Did I miss something?
